This course prepares you for the SK0-005 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Server Hardware Installation and Management (18%)
- Install physical hardware (racking, power/network cabling, chassis types, HCL-aware component selection)
- Deploy and manage storage (RAID levels 0/1/5/6/10, JBOD, hardware vs. software RAID, capacity planning)
- Perform server hardware maintenance (firmware/driver updates, replacing FRUs, environmental monitoring, capacity/asset planning)
Domain 2 Server Administration (30%)
- Install server operating systems (installation methods, boot methods, partitioning, driver/firmware considerations)
- Configure servers to use network infrastructure services (DNS, DHCP, NTP, directory services)
- Configure and maintain server functions/features (roles, file/print/web services, storage provisioning)
- Explain key concepts of high availability (clustering, load balancing, failover, redundancy, replication)
- Summarize the purpose and operation of virtualization (hypervisors, VM configuration, resource allocation)
- Summarize scripting basics for server administration (variables, loops, automation use cases)
- Explain the importance of asset management and documentation
- Explain licensing concepts (per-seat, per-core, subscription, open source)
Domain 3 Security and Disaster Recovery (24%)
- Summarize data security concepts (encryption at rest/in transit, key management)
- Summarize physical security concepts (access control, video surveillance, environmental controls)
- Explain identity and access management concepts (authentication, authorization, MFA, least privilege)
- Explain data security risks and mitigation strategies (threats, vulnerabilities, hardening controls)
- Apply server hardening methods (patching, disabling unused services, host firewalls)
- Explain the importance of backups/restores and disaster recovery (backup types, RTO/RPO, DR sites, testing)
Domain 4 Troubleshooting (28%)
- Explain troubleshooting theory and methodology (identify problem, establish theory, test, implement, document)
- Troubleshoot common hardware failures (POST errors, component failures, environmental issues)
- Troubleshoot storage problems (RAID failures, disk errors, capacity/performance issues)
- Troubleshoot common OS and software problems (boot failures, service crashes, patch issues)
- Troubleshoot network connectivity issues (connectivity loss, name resolution, latency)
- Troubleshoot security problems (unauthorized access, malware, certificate/authentication failures)
