What's This Course About

Claude Certified Architect - Foundations (CCAR-F) Exam Prep prepares you for the Claude Certified Architect - Foundations exam from Anthropic, which validates that you can make informed decisions about tradeoffs when implementing real-world solutions with Claude. The exam tests foundational knowledge across Claude Code, the Claude Agent SDK, the Claude API and Model Context Protocol (MCP), the core technologies used to build production-grade applications with Claude. It is aimed at solution architects, AI engineers and senior developers who design and build production applications, agents and workflows with Claude.

The course follows the five official exam domains and their weightings. You will start with agentic architecture and orchestration (27%), covering agentic loops, coordinator-subagent patterns, subagent context passing, workflow enforcement and handoff, Agent SDK hooks, task decomposition and session state. Next you will study tool design and MCP integration (18%), including clear tool interfaces, structured error responses, distributing tools across agents, integrating MCP servers and choosing the right built-in tools. You will then cover Claude Code configuration and workflows (20%), such as the CLAUDE.md hierarchy, custom slash commands and skills, path-specific rules, plan mode versus direct execution, iterative refinement and CI/CD integration.

The course continues with prompt engineering and structured output (20%), including explicit criteria, few-shot prompting, structured output with tool use and JSON schemas, validation and retry loops, batch processing and multi-pass review, and closes with context management and reliability (15%), covering context preservation, escalation and ambiguity resolution, error propagation across multi-agent systems, large codebase exploration, human review and confidence calibration, and information provenance. Each domain combines explanation, hands-on practice with Claude Code and the Agent SDK, and scenario-based questions modelled on the exam’s customer use cases, such as customer support agents, multi-agent research pipelines and Claude Code in CI/CD.

The CCAR-F exam has 60 multiple-choice and multiple-response questions in 120 minutes, built around 4 scenarios drawn from a bank of 6, and is delivered by Pearson VUE online or at a test centre, with a passing scaled score of 720 out of 1,000. By the end, you will be able to design robust Claude-based systems with confidence and be well prepared to pass the exam.

Claude is the engine behind a large share of what Dr. Alfred Ang builds. As a full-stack AI developer, Agentic AI solution architect and CTO of Tertiary Infotech Academy Pte Ltd in Singapore, Dr. Ang designs intelligent agents and production systems end-to-end, spanning front end, back end, databases, cloud deployment and native mobile apps, and documents that work in more than 300 public repositories on GitHub. The ai-cms and ai-pei projects are self-hosted, AI-powered content management systems built on Next.js and the Claude Agent SDK, with AI content generation, a weekly auto-blog scheduler and a self-improving lead-generation chatbot. The tapcard platform, a digital business card with a built-in CRM, also runs on the Claude Agent SDK, and sgtutors uses a ten-minute Claude AI interview to screen tutors on a marketplace. Dr. Ang has built a courseware generation platform on the Claude Agent SDK and Streamlit, and a course proposal preparation app powered by Claude Code. Two public collections of Claude Code skills package repeatable workflows, such as starting apps, generating READMEs, pushing images and scanning for secrets, into tools that agents can call reliably. Day-to-day development of the ai-mms course-registration system behind the Tertiary Courses sites is itself driven through Claude Code with project configuration, memory and guardrails, which gives Dr. Ang direct experience of designing context, tools and checks that hold up over long sessions. That daily practice gives Dr. Ang concrete stories for nearly every design trade-off the certification examines.

The Claude Certified Architect - Foundations Certification course prepares learners for the CCAR-F exam by connecting each domain to real design decisions. In agentic architecture and orchestration, Dr. Ang compares single-agent and multi-agent patterns, explains when to use subagents and how to hand work between them, and discusses the trade-offs between autonomy and control. The tool design and MCP integration topic covers writing clear tool descriptions, shaping inputs and outputs, and connecting external systems through the Model Context Protocol, illustrated with tools Dr. Ang has actually wired into agents. Claude Code configuration and workflows looks at project instructions, skills, hooks, permissions and how to keep a coding agent productive and safe. Prompt engineering and structured output focuses on reliable instructions, examples and schema-constrained responses that downstream code can trust. The final topic, context management and reliability, deals with long conversations, memory, retrieval, error handling and evaluation, the issues that decide whether an agent survives contact with real users. Each topic is reinforced with scenario questions in the style of the exam, followed by discussion of why the best answer is best. Developers, solution architects and technical leads will find the pace demanding but practical. To study the Claude Agent SDK applications and Claude Code skills referenced throughout, learners can explore Dr. Study tips and a review of the official exam guide help learners plan the remaining preparation time effectively after the course.
