Electrostatic Discharge Control (ESD) Masterclass equips engineers, technicians and managers with the knowledge and skills to protect sensitive electronic components and assemblies from electrostatic discharge in laboratory and factory environments. ESD damage is often invisible, causing immediate failures or latent defects that surface later in the field, costing manufacturers yield, reputation and money. This masterclass is designed for electronics manufacturing, quality, engineering and facilities personnel responsible for ESD-safe operations.

You will begin with the basics of ESD, including how static charge is generated, triboelectric charging, induction, how ESD damages devices and the concept of ESD-sensitive items. Next you will study ESD control principles, equipment and practices, covering grounding, wrist straps, footwear and flooring, ESD mats, ionisers, packaging, handling procedures and setting up an ESD protected area (EPA). You will learn how each control element works and how they combine into an effective programme.

The course then covers ESD control standards, testing and auditing, with reference to ANSI/ESD S20.20 and IEC 61340-5-1, including how to verify equipment, measure resistance and conduct compliance audits. The final topic focuses on employee training and awareness, so ESD discipline becomes part of everyday behaviour. Practical demonstrations reinforce each topic. By the end, you will be able to implement, maintain and audit an effective ESD control programme in your organisation.
