What's This Course About

Docker Fundamentals for Beginners gives you hands-on skills to containerise, run and manage applications using Docker, and introduces you to Kubernetes for running containers at scale. Containers package an application with everything it needs to run, so it behaves the same on a laptop, a server or the cloud, which has made Docker a cornerstone of modern DevOps and cloud-native development. The course is designed for developers, system administrators, DevOps and IT professionals, and students who are new to containers.

You will start with Docker fundamentals, understanding containers versus virtual machines, installing Docker, running containers from images, writing Dockerfiles to build your own images, and managing images, volumes and networks. You will also learn how to push images to a container registry. Next you will learn Docker Compose, defining and running multi-container applications, such as a web app with a database, in a single configuration file, and managing environment variables, dependencies and persistent data.

The course continues with Kubernetes fundamentals, introducing clusters, pods, deployments and services and deploying your containerised application to Kubernetes, followed by advanced Kubernetes concepts such as scaling, rolling updates, ConfigMaps, Secrets and persistent storage. Throughout the course you will also learn container security and best practices. Every topic is hands-on with guided labs. By the end, you will be able to containerise applications with Docker, orchestrate them with Compose and deploy them to Kubernetes with confidence.
