What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the FC0-U71 certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 IT Concepts and Terminology (13%)
- Explain the basics of computing (input, processing, output, storage)
- Identify notational systems (binary, hexadecimal, decimal, octal)
- Compare and contrast common units of measure (storage, throughput, processing speed)
- Explain the troubleshooting methodology (identify problem, establish theory, test, plan of action, verify, document)
Domain 2 Infrastructure (24%)
- Explain common computing devices and their purposes (smartphones, laptops, servers, IoT devices, VR/AR systems)
- Explain the purpose of common internal computing components (motherboard, BIOS, RAM, CPU, GPU, storage, NIC)
- Compare and contrast storage types (volatile vs. non-volatile, local storage, local network storage)
- Install and configure common peripheral devices (printers, scanners, keyboards, displays, UPS)
- Compare and contrast common I/O device interfaces (wired/wireless networking, display ports, peripheral device connectors)
- Compare and contrast virtualization and cloud technologies (hypervisor, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS, deployment models)
- Compare and contrast common internet service types; identify basic networking concepts (IP/MAC address, routers, switches, LAN/WAN); explain small wireless network capabilities (802.11, 2.4GHz/5GHz/6GHz)
Domain 3 Applications and Software (18%)
- Identify components of an OS (filesystem, file management, system applications/utilities, interfaces)
- Explain the purpose of operating systems (disk/task/application/device management, access control, OS types)
- Explain the purpose and proper use of software (productivity, collaboration, instant messaging, web-browsing, remote support software)
- Configure and use web browser features (private browsing, add-ons/extensions, caching, pop-up blockers, password management)
- Identify common uses of artificial intelligence (AI chatbots, AI assistants, generative AI, AI predictions and suggestions)
Domain 4 Software Development Concepts (13%)
- Compare and contrast programming language categories (interpreted, compiled, query, assembly)
- Identify fundamental data types and their characteristics (char, strings, numbers, Boolean)
- Explain the purpose and use of programming concepts (identifiers, variables, constants, arrays, functions, objects)
- Identify programming organizational techniques and logic concepts (pseudo code, flow charts, branching, looping)
Domain 5 Data and Database Fundamentals (13%)
- Explain the value of data and information (critical vs. non-critical data, data-driven business decisions, data monetization, big data)
- Explain database concepts and the purpose of a database (create, import/input, query, reports, storage, data persistence, availability)
- Compare and contrast various database structures (structured/semistructured/non-structured, relational databases with schema/tables/keys, non-relational databases)
- Explain basic data backup concepts (file backups, system backups, restoring data, local vs. cloud storage location)
Domain 6 Security (19%)
- Explain fundamental security concepts and frameworks (CIA triad, privacy, PII, GDPR, authentication/authorization/accounting)
- Explain methods to secure devices and security best practices (social engineering, anti-malware, firewall, patching, physical device security, software licensing/sources)
- Explain password best practices (length, complexity, history, expiration, managers, reuse)
- Identify common use cases for encryption (data at rest/in transit, file/disk level, VPN, HTTPS)
- Configure security settings for a small wireless network (SSID, default password, WPA/WPA2/WPA3)
