What You'll Learn
This course prepares you for the Tableau certification exam, covering all official exam domains and their approximate weightings:
Domain 1 Domain 1: Connecting to & Preparing Data (25%)
- Create live connections and extracts; explain live vs. extract tradeoffs
- Create a data source that uses multiple connections; save metadata properties in a .TDS
- Create and manage the data model: add relationships, joins, and unions; explain join vs. relationship
- Rename data fields and assign aliases to data values
- Assign geographic roles to data fields; change data type (number, date, string, Boolean, etc.)
- Change default field properties (number format, aggregation, color, date format, etc.)
Domain 2 Domain 2: Exploring & Analyzing Data (35%)
- Create basic charts: bar, line, scatterplot, geographic map, combined axis, dual axis, stacked bar, density map, crosstab/highlight table
- Organize data with groups and sets (via marks, headers, and the data pane); build dimension hierarchies
- Add filters to a view, including date filters
- Apply worksheet analytics: manual/computed sorts, reference lines, quick table calculations, bins and histograms
- Create calculated fields (string, date, simple arithmetic) and know when to use a parameter
- Display totals on a worksheet
Domain 3 Domain 3: Sharing Insights (25%)
- Format views for presentation: mark colors, fonts, mark shapes, viz animations, mark sizing, legend show/hide
- Create and modify dashboards: add worksheets, configure layout and device-specific dashboards
- Add interactive elements for consumers (show filters, data highlighter, tooltips) and dashboard actions (filter, highlight, parameter control, URL action)
- Create a story and story points
- Share a workbook (e.g., .twbx as PDF or image, publish to Tableau Server)
- View/export underlying data and export to Microsoft PowerPoint
Domain 4 Domain 4: Understanding Tableau Concepts (15%)
- Explain what kind of information dimensions vs. measures usually contain, and the difference between them
- Explain how discrete vs. continuous fields are displayed
- Explain the difference between discrete date parts and continuous date values
- Explain the default aggregation for measures
- Describe how an aggregated measure changes when dimensions are added to a view
